splendid episode and I'm glad the fillers are over ^^ I guess you guys are right that the mother of the main couple is the same girl who had health problems then died just after she had Rea, if that's the case probably Furuya's birth happened months after her resurrection by his grandpa and married his dad then Mero born years later shortly before her mom disappeared... if you though this series was morbid enough what about a pregnant zombie? o.O even if Danichiro's incestous fixation on his daughter makes sense his pedophillia isn't justified at all because he still sees his 15-years-old late wife on her, reason why Aria is sexually frustrated for his lack of affection and no wonder she was attracted to Chihiro but he was a bit too cold for rejecting her for liking only zombie girls (what a weird family)

Okay now we're getting somewhere as to why he fawned over Rea this whole time. to think he was actually a lolicon from the getgo like that.
I mean this also does explain as to why he really dotted over his daughter as well, becuase of her looking just like her mother. In any case I do kind of feel bad for her, but somehow I want to say that the only way to get him to look at her would be if she just outright jumped him. I mean that would solve most of the problems here. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... I agree that this is a very good episode. To get to see the history of Rea's dad and stepmother gives it a whole new insight in how much trouble that family has.
Danichiro's fixation of seeing his dead wife in his daughter is pretty troubling. He really needs help.. Aria is really a sad person. She feels to actually love Danichiro a lot but has been alone for a very long time now in that household. It makes it understandable why she drinks and acts pretty cold. Who could survive such a terrible surrounding without being hurt a lot. Hopefully it will get better for her in the end of this series. |
|
Wait a sec, what? You think that Rea and Chihiro have the same mother? Then again.... it does have a much older man marrying a 15 yr old after only one meeting Aria is still a mystery to me, what does she see in Danichiro exactly? Maybe the 3 dots on his forehead are a turn on....? |
|
Aria really is a sad person having to see all this and I would say her drinking is the best option for her since she couldve handled it otherwise, like with a lot of blood and stuff. They way it looks she is probably still a virgin. Too bad for Chihiro that hes only interested in zombies. I wouldve totally took up Aria on her offer to get both her and Rea ^^ Oh and of course Wanko. I really hope Chihiro and Rea dont have the same mother since Im still waiting for a romance between those two. But it seems I will wait forever for that since Chihiro, as surprising as it is, is not interested in Rea despite her beeing the zombiegirl he wished for so much.
@julz: Well thats just how love is. You cant decide who you love, it just happens and you are either lucky or not. Sadly Aria didnt have luck and fell in love with Danichiro. But of course that is good for humanity because if we would only love who we want to humanity wouldve died out already a long time ago because more than 90% of humans would never be loved since they arent worth it. is a very slight possibility but after watching the OVA (no episode aired this week probably because father's day) I'm taking more in consideration that Yuzuna was a zombie and probably their mysterious mom, she told Furuya's dad (and grandpa telling by his resurrection book) to not say anything about herself or her past but 7 months later Aria spill the beans to her son even if was Danichiro's secret from his daughter... I mean why else the respective fathers avoid the subject in front of their own children? because Yuzuna wanted to keep those secrets from her families even if she was kind and really loved them (also looks like she lived really close to both), that gory flashback at min 13:50 before his first blind encounter with Rea must be one of the very few blurry memories that Chihiro was talking about and most likely the cause for his zombie obsession o.O

I never pictured Aria to be that bad a mother, but with her beeing an alcoholic its not really surprising.
Since we found out a lot of new stuff about Chihiros mom I cant understand why it was made an OVA instead of a part of the series since its important (and why only DVD-quality -.-). I looks like her past is quite bloody. @Necro: I dont know if youve written something wrong in your post or if you have additional insights of the series but your post is confusing me. Why do you think Aria knows that Chihiros mother was a zombie? And when did she tell him? And what has Danichiro and Rea to do with that? Please explain that. So we finally get to the epsidoe were he finally gets to talk some sense into Rea's father. not only that but seeing her in a bunny oufit and nurse outift oddly suits her.
In any case it looks like if she tends to lick any of his wounds he looses any sense of pain it would seem. So in a sense she would be something more along the line of a Jan-Shi type of zombie since the effects are temporary in a sense. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... hmm while reading my post again I get why it confuses you as I assumed that Rea and Chihiro's mom was the same telling by Aria and Danichiro's reaction in other episodes after their daughter revived, is weird that they accepted that fact quickly like they already knew that something similar happened before to somebody else (Yuzuna in this case) and trusted Rea to the Furuyas' care until he finds a cure... well as mentioned before I was right about her sick dad planned a fencing match vs Chihiro to decide who'll protect her and kill him but didn't convince me why he survived ala deus ex machina, for a second I though Rea would revive him into a zombie and what happened with her strength 'cuz she didn't free herself from that net or break her handcuffs earlier (maybe she was tired after many bench swings) January New Year - Hellsing ava: Integra, sig: ally or enemy? ![]() ![]() Scores of the Latest top 10 Anime TV Series / OVA Series: 1 Bakuman S3 - 10/10 (airing, S1 8/10, S2 9/10) A 2 Hellsing Ultimate OVAs - 9/10 (TV 7/10, The Dawn 8/10) B+ 3 Psycho Pass - 9/10 (airing) B+ 4 Chihayafuru 2 - 8/10 (airing, S1 8/10) A 5 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - 8/10 (ar, Ova1 8/10, O2 7/10) B+ 6 Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT - 7/10 (ar, S1 7/10) B 7 Uchuu Kyoudai aka Space Brothers - 7/10 (airing) A+ 8 Ginga e Kickoff!! - 6/10 (airing, Summer Special 6/10) A- 9 Saint Seiya Omega - 6/10 (airing, Tenkaihen movie 5/10) B- 10 Puchimas! - 5/10 (ar, Idolmaster 8/10, Shiny festa 7/10) A- |

Well it is weird that they accepted her zombie state rather easily, like it's a normal thing... instead what surprised him was that all she ever wanted in life was to be treated like a normal girl
Well, you have to remember that she isn't actually super strong now. She has the same level of strength as when she was human, the only thing is that she no longer feels any pain so she surpasses the limits of human strength (which are there to keep you from over straining yourself) but she could be severely injuring herself without knowing it. She may have held back with that in mind, or it could be she was hoping that the maids would just let her go What bothers me is how forgiving they are towards the father. He just stabbed Chihiro and luckily he wasn't killed! And he has been a pedo dad all this time, but who cares! They just swept all of that under the rug and ended the episode with an overflow of shots with Wanko's boobs. This post has been edited by julezia on Jun 24 2012, 10:24 AM |

Yes that really is strange but you have to consider how the family works. I mean the maids are only there for becoming the future wife of an potential heir and Danichiro is really powerful so nobody is going to speak up against him (you know the typical overpowered japanese anime-tycoon) since it would spell the end for their family. Its the same with the "Josef Fritzl case" where he had his daughter(s) as slave in his cellar for I dont remember how many years and nobody who knew it talked about it or tried to do something. Okay with the last epsidoe I have to ask the one question here, and that's "Will this get a second season?"
Pretty much the last epsidoe more or less ended with somewhat of a cliff-hangar if you ask me, so I guess this means that they may continue this later on down the road. Granted it's a decient series, but it'll agrivate me to no end if they end it like that. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... This series was one enjoyed by yours truly. Now, as to whether we fans get to see that incident unravel even moreso with a second season, all remains to be seen. Two OVAS are due out...one already has been released as a prequel to the current story while OVA number two will be released in November if the anime reports are correct. Maybe with OVA number two, we will get to see what has happened since...I will miss Mero-chan since she was my favorite character. So cute and so wise and such a good cook. Loved her slow way of talking and despite her not saying much, nothing ever slipped past her sharp little eyes. ![]() |

I know what you mean and I can understand why Aria gives a damn whatever Rea does without mentioning her alcoholism is probably another reason why zombies don't surprise her anymore, Dan'ichiro was blinded by his overprotective "love" for his daughter and he didn't want to grant what she really wanted but you know with Ranko's rack is easy to forget all the problems that just happened ...about the 12th episode it didn't feel as the last one at all with Rea back to school being a dangeous zombie and many questions posted haven't been answered yet like what is the name of her biological mom (is she Yuzuna?), so far I'm liking Sankarea more than TOxA from my spring top series but time will tell if a TV sequel follows after the OVAs until there's more content from its ongoing manga so I'll leave it between 9/10 and 8/10

They couldve leave the thing with Rea biting Chihiro and it wouldve been a good finale but like this it doesnt feel like an end and I doubt the last OVA will provide us with an end since an OVA just hasnt that much time it would need.
Overall this show was a enjoyable watch. It had an interesting plot, good characters (not to mention hot women ^^) and great animation. Chihiro was a good protagonist and formed a nice couple with Rea who you could say was the star of this show and my favorite character. Danichiro was a great antagonist until he left Rea in Chihiros care (still wish he dies an horrible death). Ranko was more or less a fifth wheel and was portrayed rather annoyingly what she didnt deserve. Aria was a bit left out, I hoped to see more of her and maybe seeing her relationship with Rea getting better, but maybe we get to see that in a second season since you saw at the end that she doesnt really hate Rea. The only character who was more or less completely useless was Mero. I just dont like slow and apathic people like her. The stuff with the zombies was portrayed really good and wasnt overthetop but with all the problems that comes with beeing dead, like the decaying, change of skincolor and so on. Maybe Chihiro should ask Ayumu from Kore wa Zombie how to "maintain" Reas body ^^. This show gets an 8/10 from me. [Admin note: Sig removed due to negative comments toward the community] |

Sankarea is based off an ongoing romantic comedy manga. It follows Rea Sanka (using western naming convention of course), who is the show's titular character, and how she dies yet lives again. Chihiro Furuya is the show's male protagonist and is obsessed with zombies and necromancy related topics. The show was simulcasted on CrunchyRoll and licensed by Funimation Entertainment for US release. Unlike most zombie titles, this one doesn't involve turning others into zombies or an apocalypse setting. In fact, it twists it and creates the general romantic comedy setting. With a bit of love and hate on both ends as well as a mix that could be considered taboo, how does this show hold up at the end of the day?

Finally watched OVA number two and also the special, http://myanimelist.net/anime/16694/Sankare..._Zombie_de_Aru..
The special (episode 13) is told from Badu's perspective..it seems he finds a special friend and then has to leave said friend due to a hunger that comes on towards the end of the episode. What is interesting is the last few minutes of the special as we see a strange looking owl and its owner landing in Japan...I hope it does mean a second season. Was good to see the gang again after so long. |

So I just checked through this thread and I most certainly stopped after episode 09 as it said earlier on MAL. My mini-mission of the day was to complete the series, so I checked through all the random curiosity reviews of Episodes 1 to 9....only really looked at the pictures.
I started off by watching the first OVA episode, episode 00 that takes place 7 months before the first episode just as a reminder of what the characters were like and also because of a recommendation of watching this episode along with episode 10, which are mainly "flashback" episodes. After that, I finsihed the original TV series off and was proud to make it "complete" at MAL. The series is awesome and of course unique in that there aren't many animes depicting the undead as potential lovers, there are of course a lot of mangas out there for it but this in anime is great but also really innocent. Not like "My lovely ghost Kana", which is pretty much hentai. I really like characters like Ranko but I also pity her because she doesn't have a place in the main character's heart yet since he's so focused on giving Rea a "normal girl life" and somewhat in love with her, I wouldn't say he's completely in love with her yet. I haven't read the manga in a long time and I've mostly forgotten what I have read in the past, so I might restart from the beginning, probably do it next year though, I still have a lot more anime series I want to finish before the end of 2012. My score for this series is a 9/10, it's the score I had for it when I stopped watching at episode 09 earlier this year and I decided to keep the score because I thought episode 10 to 12 were pretty good, of course the last TV episode didn't seem like a conclusion but I expected that since apparently episodes 13 and 14 are bundled with the Blu-Ray volumes. I'm surprised they haven't been subbed yet, I think episode 13 has been but I don't where to find it though. |

well just found last episode subbed in english (already watched #13 with spanish subs), was nice to see Rea enjoying school and becoming popular while Aria gets jealous ^^ ...most of the OVA was only a dream of hers after playing with herself in the bathtub, I didnt figure out she was the fairy wing girl until I noticed her eye color and hatred for Rea meanwhile waiting S2:

I finally got round to watching episode 13 and 14 and they were both pretty good.
Episode 13 was decent but to me became great only when Darin and her owl were introduced, well their debut as their names were never mentioned. From what I know is that the anime and manga series are very different in where Darin debuts, she apparently debuts much earlier in the manga and is integral at times, whereas, in the anime she is merely shown riding a plane and landing in Japan with her owl doing some reconnaissance. Episode 14 was really great as again a "new character" was introduced and her antics at getting Rea in trouble and giving Rea trouble were great but I was slightly disappointed to find out that everything was a "dream" linked to all 3 character, Rea, Aria and Chihiro......it was also a little "shock" to find out that the little girl was actually Aria but I sorta guessed it was her since the episode started off with her and then the little girl's glare towards Rea was similar to Aria's glare. Again, this brought up thoughts of Aria, I really wish for someone to be for her because Rea's father is most probably never going to. I mean I know she is a character, who most would love to hate but I for one, feel pity for her, which I believe some people do. My scores for the following:- Episode 13 "I am... a Zombie, too..." - 8/10 Episode 14 "Body of a zombie, heart of a..." - 8/10 |
