Just finished watching the last episode and as everyone before me, I agree with your sentiments. It was definitely inoffensive, fun and enjoyable series, which I wouldn't mind seeing a second season for. When I found out this series was about ppl with animal-ears, I was put off first because I thought it would heavily focus on that aspect and make into a series that only "furries" would enjoy but I'm glad they never really went into that part and kept most of the characters fairly "human". Since, its from the creator of Nanoha, I wouldn't be surprised seeing a 2nd season to this series in the future. I'm grading this series with a 7.5/10 rating. |
|
^ Agreed. If it be another fluff piece where doggies and kitties are just barely at each other's necks, then forget about my watching a second season. ![]() |

I can agree with this. Becky being introduced into it would be very good.
I agree with this. It can however use a better bad guy as mentioned. It lacked the depth of having a really dangerous enemy. Due to this it felt like watching a kind of series like Pokemon (nobody ever gets hurt...just scratched or something like that) which can be a real turn off. So for me i'll just say 6.5 out of 10. |

Dog Days is based off the work by the same author as Triangle Hearts and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, Masaki Tsuzuki...or rather it's the other way around since both the manga and light novel began serialization in the same month the series aired.
To start with the negatives in this show, there are a lot of plot holes, and not just ordinary plot holes, but rather large and potentially contradictory ones. To name the two that really stood out: 1) the prophecy said that Cinque and Millhiore would die in 30 days, so unless the translation was incorrect, I'm pretty sure 30 days had not passed. It was pretty misleading, especially given that Cinque only had 16 days to stay. 2) In episode 10 when Cinque was attempting to chase the demon with Eclair, he somehow was able to summon weapons despite not having Paladoin with him (recall that Millhiore took both to duel with Leo). The story was also not very focused for the most part and ended up being very jumpy. On the upside, the story, while straightforward, was not entirely bland and uninteresting. Sure the scenario has been used in a similar fashion like in Tsuzuki's previous works as well as other titles like Inukami, but the show presented itself in a simple manner illustrating that such a form of presentation still does work in this industry. The idea of a "cutesy no body gets killed war" idea is also a clever one if you ask me despite how silly it is. Animation was good except in episode 11 where there was a huge dip in quality after spending the budget on the CG concert effects in the same episode. The special effects from the attacks could have been better done but for the purpose of this show I guess it was fine. Nothing special and typical Seven Arcs. There were, however, a bunch of far away shots, which I thought was cheap. Whether or not the budget for this show was low to begin with still doesn't give it an excuse for that many of those kind of shots. Seiyuu was great for this show. From Cinque and Godwin to Ricotta and Millhiore the cast was great across the board. BGM was also quite solid for this show. The OP and ED were decent and when compared to rest of this past season, it was probably one of the better ones too. Character development was shallow sadly. Probably the weakest part of the show where there were short flashbacks and glimpses of a few characters' pasts, but nothing substantial that really added much to the characters. Enjoyment? It wasn't an exceptional show but likely on the better side of last season. Generally speaking, it was a good watch and it's hard to find simple shows nowadays. Overall, a good watch. Not necessarily worth one's time nor a priority show, but if one has time, it's a good way to kill it. Preliminary Score: Final Score: |

You know Kit if I had to guess this season could probablly be considered as the introductry season of the major cast members since it kind of implied that there is a good chance for a second season here. Besides it kind of gave a slight overview of the world our little hero entered into. Also, that "Death Note" prophsey was originally set for 30 days but it looked like she managed to make it progress by speeding up the timetables for it. So in other words she made it happen a bit sooner than anticapated. Although in doing so things got changed quite a bit though.

I think the main issue is that the mechanics of this "star reading" was not clearly defined and ended up being a plot device. Had they spelled it out more clearly by diving deeper on Leo's and Millhiore's past or how this world used such readings, I think that would have made the argument more convincing. The readings were briefly shown in each of Leo's flashbacks and dreams and it made it seem as if it was completely irrelevant to the story, which is likely the reason why episode 10 and 11 felt incredibly anti climatic after a decent suspense buildup in the previous episodes. |
|
Well I think it was becuase Leo relied way to heavilly on her readings which is why she was doing things on her own. Even Biscotti did the occasional star reading but also somehow managed to get Japanese TV at one point.
Pretty much I think they were trying to go with how highly accurate Leo was, but at the same time how she wanted to resolve everything on her own though. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... Like I said before I hope that his friends do get dragged into the world he was in since it'll make things much more fun to watch here.
I mean his friends do need to know where he was while he was kind of MIA for most of the break. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... A really good news. Looking forward to it.

If I were writing it, Cinque's rival cousin who we barely learned anything about in the first season other than that she can beat him would get pulled into the world as a champion for the Cats, or maybe another competing country. But I probably wouldn't want to add another country because there are already too many under-served characters.

Oh Seven Arcs, you're just buying time for Sekirei season 3 now To be honest, I'm actually quite pleased to hear this news. Dog Days, while an average adventure/fantasy show, was certainly above average relative to a few other titles we've been seeing as of late. Little fanservice and more plot driven, which is great for a show that looked more moe and seiyuu heavy than anything else. Granted that the seiyuu weight was indeed a major factor in this show's success, the premise was appealing and the conclusion left a lot of room for development. Not to mention that you have the Nanoha staff behind this show so things could potentially get even better. |

Hooray! The fun little series is back! Your dreams did come true, Woofie-san...Becky-chan and Nanami-chan have landed safely alongside kawaii lolo, Shinku-kun. Hime-sama is as cute and pet-worthy as she was before while Leo-hime is still a great beauty. Things are going to get interesting as Shinku is pitted against Nanami while perhaps, Becky learns the ropes or will she too, become a hero? P.S. Of course, I am also hoping a dark sinister force emerges to spoil everyone's fun even if it proves to be another fluff piece like in season I. ![]() |
|
I'm actually hoping it keeps the fluffiness if not make Becky into a "magical girl." When I saw the new opening video, I had to do a double take as I swore I saw Nanoha in the show. The show was never really meant to be entirely serious and the fluff it has is good fluff. |
|
Looks like I got my entire wish list except for the bit about not adding new countries. A request I completely rescind since the chipmunk loli is deadly cute! I'm also looking forward to some magical girl antics from Wendy, because how awesome is that? I'm OK with a little bit of an underlying threat to everyone, etc., as long as it is dealt with in cute and fluffy way.
|
|
^ Yep...since we already know the mud slinging will be fluffy just like last time so ain't nothing wrong with everyone's "tails" getting ruffled up again. I seem to recall the last threat was that of a giant spirit animal wanting to have a thorn removed or was it wanting to be reunited with its mama? Maybe this time the foe will be another monster who's constipated, has uncontrolled pain, or maybe we get a disgruntled ex-employee who was fired for grabbing too much tail. ![]() |

So it seems that they decided to thorw a welcome back match not only for Cinque-kun, but also a welcoming match for his cousin as well. As for Becky it looks like she's now going to be scoutted for being a hero of another nation that now will get some screen time it would seem.
In any case I know this series to be the kind of fun filled series with the occasional fanservicy antics every now and again of course. Also, I thought that the new princess was actually a squirrel girl, but I guess they are rather similar though. Oh yes Dog days is back again.... Looking forward to my leonmitchelli-tan :3333 and yukikaze and Brioche Ufufufufu *v*

So finally Dog Days is back. I cant believe its been more than a year since it doesnt feel that long. Well that shows that the producers did a good job on connecting the two seasons.
We already knew that at some point Becky would go to their world too, but Nanami is a surprise. But a good one since with that Cinque finally gets a worthy enemy. To be honest I wish that this series gets a bit more serious for its fightings, you know a bit more despair and more "I want to win" instead of "I want to have fun". A manical warmonger would suit this show to show them what fighting really is about. So is it just me or did Cinque get smaller? Or is it that Millhiore got bigger? If I remember correctly she was quite a bit smaller than Cinque in season one. But well Cats and Dogs are aging faster and die sooner so no surprise here. I really hope we get to see more of Brioche in this show since she didnt get enough screentime last season. But my hope isnt high since there is a lack of her in the OP again so she seems to stay a sidecharacter -.- Back from Connichi germanys biggest anime convention. Again I got a lot of great pictures of cosplayers, tried the Cardfight Vanguard Trading Card Game (which is really good) and of course got myself some figures again. ![]() My Animelist |
