R-15, a boy genius at writing

Avatar

Title: R-15

Genre: ecchi, comedy

Plot Summary: Takuto Akutagawa has a special ability for writing porn novels. He applies to Hirameki Gakuen a high school which only accepts people with "Unique" talent. Now he must chase his dream and direct his classmates to win an interclass competition. All while trying to create the prefect harem.

Opening Theme:
"Maji Yaba Mousou LOVE♥" (マジヤバもーそうLOVE♥) by R-15
Ending Theme:
"HIRAMEKI! Peace (≧▽≦)v (HIRAMEKI!ピース(≧▽≦)v)" by R-15

First impression:
blink.gif What kind of story is this? This series may be one of the strangest ones i've ever seen. It only focuses on being ecchi and a little story (well, it is pretty clear about how Takuto is feeling about Narukara). Probably it will remain predictable throughout the series.
I can't say more than that the animation and music are standard.
The only thing to say is that if you like ecchiness you probably will like this series (on blue ray that is since this series is censored a lot and in doing so even loses the ecchiness part).

They may as well have released this as an OVA series. With this much censorship and already a lackluster plot, I don't see the point in developing a whole series for this. The show is directed by the person who worked on the original Seikon no Qwaser and composed by the person who did Kannazuki no Miko. I hope for more yuri/shoujo-ai but all I see in this show is nothing but 12-13 episodes of pure fanservice at the moment.

Animation is subpar for AIC given their recent works, though still above the quality of Shukufuku no Campanella.

Music sequences were pretty bad though the ED video sequence was cute.

Enjoyment? Almost none. The yuri fantasies were good (less censorship) but other than very bored with this show as expected.

Preliminary Expectation: Low
Preliminary Score: 5/10

I started watching it but after 5 min I stopped it since its useless with this much censorship. Waiting for the uncensored version to watch it just like with Qwaser 2.

Episode 2 felt a bit better to watch. Takuto had some nice ideas and him being genuinely worried about Utae. Still his way of helping her wasn't exactly awesome..more like a big fluke. Maybe the best thing to say is that Utae was a good addition to the episode. Together with Narukara in the background observing Takuto gave this episode some much needed inspiration and hope. Even though this series is very weak a story playing in the background of the episodes between Takuto and Narukara can help to keep on watching. I wonder if Utae now will develop some feelings for Takuto. It would be very generic if that happens but it sure is an improvement. The censorship of the episode is hopeless though..Having half the screen turn white is overdone.

I kind of like this show. Usually when you have so-called genius characters in anime, it is an informed truth rather than it behind displayed. But especially with the second episode, you can really feel the genius of Takuto's writing. It's like there's actually a good writer writer for the good writer character! I liked the Sheryl Nome reference in the second episode too. But like Killer_O, I just can't keep watching this with that hack-job censorship. Sorry, but ecchi stuff is too much of an important aspect of this show to do without it. So I'm going to wait for an uncensored release before finishing the series.

What to say about episode 3...i've never seen such extensive censorship. The voice of the professor is annoying. The story had a big dip with nothing really new happening. To say that this was a bad episode may be too harsh since there were a few positive things about it: Takuto and Narukara seem to get off to being friends and Utae's phone call gives hope that people even when their story ended do come back into episodes.
Still it was not enough to save this episode from being ruined by the censorship..

Episode 4 and we get a divine wind..which this series needs to get better. But unfortunately it is a fake. The story was predictable...what can be called a story that is. The censorship kills the rest. If the previous episode wasn't bad enough this episode even lacked Takuto and Narukara being together for a longer time. Whenever they are together the level rises to a normal setting. Utae's appearance was also too brief to help. Maybe the only promising thing was the backside of the office of the newspaper president: why does she have guns at the back of an office??

It has been a while since the last episodes but finally something interesting again in this series. Finding the answer who the newspaper president is is a pretty good episode. How did that president get into the room unnoticed where Narukara was practicing??
Utae sure is a nice girl to him. She really likes him a lot. Narukara also was very good. To see her in dismay due to Utae being with Takuto gave this episode an extra it needed. It gives this series a real backstory which it needs.

Anyone remember the arms in the air for calling spaceships?? Nice reference to To heart 2. Also the old enterprise from Star Trek in the picture was fun to see.

So the series gets serious in the last episodes. Utae understands now that Taketo likes Narukara. Even though he is too stupid to understand it himself. Utae sure has improved a lot since the first episodes. To see her give him support even if she knows she will lose is a very good feature. The photographer girl looks like she has pity on her...maybe she will hit Taketo with the truth about how Utae feels.
That schoolpaper president is still very interesting. What is she in reality?
Based on the end of this episode it is probably likely Narukara will leave the school. Taketo sure would be completely stupid to not understand the hint that the schoolpaper president has given him in the last episode and in this one.

I very much doubt that Narukara will leave the school. Taketo will convice her "somehow" to stay and she will fight the will of her father to sdo so until he relents and says okay. thought it'll be a hard fought battle.

Indeed a very good final episode. Although it did lack an proper ending to Taketo and Narukara's feelings. Still it did leave a big opening for a potential OVA in Vienna. Maybe that will have a proper confession between the two about how they feel. Utae also needs to say it properly to Taketo even though she looks like she has given up on him. Also who/what is that newspaper president?

The series as a whole wasn't as bad as i feared after the first episodes. Storywise it ain't very special but still it was amusing. The animation is good enough but the censorship is just absolutely terrible. However due to the censorship you have to look at this series as it is and that means it is good enough to entertain. Without the censorship it will lose the annoying white parts so it may get higher grades. Most characters aren't special. The exceptions however are Taketo and Narukara(being the main characters.) who are pretty good although still don't have enough depth. The big surprise in character is Utae. She is by far the best with some nice development. To say she may have carried the show is no understatement.

In all an average show with lots of censorship. Still it does have its moments and when the uncensored version arrives it may be better. As it stands now (do you get the joke ? smile.gif ) 6 out of 10.

lol agreed, I was actually dreading the song from the moment it was suggested, but I think it was actually really good, and also quite funny. I'm glad they didnt over-do the porn in the song like they normally do with his writing. I kept thinking when is Narukara actually going to play?? Then she does, and the show totaly got me for a second when she pauses, I almost lol'd thinking it was a joke that it was all she was going to do, but then it got really good. I was disapointed more wasnt made with Narukara and Takuto however, I had hoped for a bit more there. I'd watch an OVA or even a second series, i'd even get the mp3 of the porno song too lol, but I wouldnt buy the BD.

that and many other questions aren't answered yet after watching the OVA subbed which continues where R-15 was left after the last episode, though it's not about their trip in Vienna ...I gave the series 5/10 for its ridiculous censoring but the OVA deserves 6/10 thanks to its uncensored content but again it didn't end properly to wait that long -.-

that being said I wonder if there will be a second season or at least new OVAs to conclude the series, at least Taketo still has the ero genius talent that shown in the concert to even beat giant perverted monsters xD ...too bad the opening and ending themes weren't sang by that funny voice guy from ep.10, here goes the full OP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYV6RMKHLZg and ED http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=...n&v=XfLCCh2G0zE laugh.gif

In my journey to revive threads from over a cour ago, R-15 is the next candidate in line. R-15 as the name implies involves a ton of fanservice.
For the most part, I found the story of R-15 to be unmemorable and obviously mostly filled with fanservice. The show follows a high school boy who is a genius novelist at writing eroge stories. Similarly, the other students at his school are geniuses at something. But putting the "others" aside Taketo requires something ecchi in order to gain inspiration and as the series progresses, he often required something more ecchi than the last. At the end of the day, the show boils down to a high school romantic comedy story as expected but it took a very roundabout way in telling it. The comedy was occasionally funny but it depends on how you viewed the way they were cracking it. I haven't seen the OVA at the time of writing, but I doubt it added anything substantial, especially since the finale episode claimed it was finished. I will say though that the eroge choir was unique and I feel bad for Utae.

Animation wise was pretty weak by AIC considering that they did Amagami SS and Nyan Koi! with some decent beauty. Also too many still shots. It felt more budget was spent on censoring than anything else. Art and character designs were fine for the most part though.

Music? I didn't find the OP particularly interesting. The ED on the other hand was cute and hilarious. Seiyuu cast wasn't really noteworthy either since I mostly recall screams throughout the series.

Enjoyment? Really nothing of value here. No rewatch value at all. Kind of the reason why I put off part of the series for so long.

Overall, this is really not worth one's time watching. If you're looking for an ecchi romantic comedy, there are plenty of other titles out there that does this better. The "story" is weak and lacks depth, not to mention that the show really could be summed up in about an hour or so rather than 12 full episodes.

Preliminary Score: 5/10
Final Score: 4/10

blink.gif I just saw the OVA. No censorship indeed but this really was bad. The series had a storyline (even if it was weak) and some characters who were good. This was just plain fanservice without any worth. I hope to forget this OVA soon.

If they want to do this again i hope that they focus on something better like who the president really is. She still is one big mystery. Or maybe something about the relationship of Taketo and Narukara.
