![]() Title: Ano Natsu de Matteru Synonyms: Waiting in the Summer Date Aired: 01/10/2012 Producers: J.C. Staff, Sentai Filmworks Director: Nagai, Tatsuyuki Genres: Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi, Ecchi, School life Episodes: 12 Characters & Voice Actors: Kirishima, Kaito: Shimazaki, Nobunaga Takatsuki, Ichika: Tomatsu, Haruka Yamano, Remon or (Lemon): Tamura, Yukari Ishigaki, Tetsurou: Ogihara, Hidek Ano Natsu de Matteru PV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2v9ZMAnydY Synopsis: When a group of friends decide to make a movie over a long summer holiday, they end up learning a little about filmmaking and a lot more about each other and themselves. What begins as a simple way to avoid the summer doldrums quickly turns into something much more complex, intimate and revealing, as the maturing relationships between the members of the young cast take on new, and sometimes very unexpected, turns. **All information taken from ANN and MAL. My thoughts... I was wondering if I would be treated to a well made series that would involve a gang of High Schoolers out to have fun when this one caught my eye. I was wanting something fun to watch with a bit of comedy and some ecchi moments...this one is the answer to what I was seeking. An added plus is that it has some well animated SciFi elements to it as well. While watching the first episode, I felt like it was Summer...wonderfully animated with likable characters. Nice background music adds to the feel of the anime. Our hapless hero, Kaito-kun is out on a summer night while testing his video camera. He is reflecting on life and death and what it means when a blast of wind hits him as a "huge" bright shiny object falls from the sky...he is thrown into the water...for dead? Who knows? But it sure looked that way....and the story/adventure begins after he meets up with a mysterious redhead...foggy memories and...I ain't gonna spoil the rest in case those who venture herein decide to give it a go. Ah! Scooter Girl alert! |

Its really hard for this series to not remind me Onegai Teacher(not really a bad thing in my opinion):
http://kurisu.imouto.org/image/904d56a8ad0...idou_matagu.jpg The redhead bishoujo from space, the group of friends including the short haired childhood friend and the loli, just to name a few. I really did enjoy the first episode very much. The rural setting of their little town was beautifully captured. One of the things I really enjoyed was the ecchi, even though it is there, I really liked how they just let it happen. They don't try to push it down our throats with exaggerated camera angles and inexplicable breast movements. Im really looking forward from more of this series. ![]() Blooming flower, please tell me Why do people fight and hurt one another ? |

I never saw Onegai Teacher so can't compare but I do agree with you on the beautifully rendered rural setting...very green and very lush. The night sky, when we first meet Kaito, was dreamy. That's why it felt like summer to me despite it being winter...ah nice. And yes....they played off the ecchi scenes with class...well done and funny too. Thanks for pointing that out Oppi-san, since from a guy's perspective it is always good to know what you all think. This one is a keeper for sure! P.S. Looking forward to finding out more about that little round space creature that squeezed out of her heavy duty "suitcase." Looks like an A.I. life form of sorts... |
|
You were right about the ecchi.... it was done a natural way that was even for me pleasant to watch. I wish all ecchi animes would be this way. Otherwise, this anime looks interesting. I like how the alien girl is totally clueless about life on earth... her knowledge is obviously of library origin and I can see loads of comedy moments coming from this. Another aspect worth mentioning is that pink eggplant looking pet she has. Its been a long time now since I saw an anime with a cutesy sidekick. It used to be normal in the late 80s and I hated it, because they mostly had squeeky voices and were generally annoying. This one hasnt talked much yet, so it remains to be seen what it is like, but if nothing else, it creates a nostalgic feeling for me. But back to the plot..... the whole "may I start living with you in your house" scene was hilarious.... I liked how they didnt do a big deal out of it or stretched the scene in any way to stress the akwardness of the situation..... aahhhh, how easy life would be if you could adjust peoples thinking with a little mindcontrol here and there!!! Oh and she really likes Kaito.... as a matter of fact it must be love at first sight; she injures him during her landing, saves his life, transfers to his school and what do you know, now she lives with him under the same roof, while his sister will be conviniently absent for the next 3 months. Alright, this will obviously be a harem setting, since the short haired girl wont give up on Kaito obviously. She is the confident cheeky type, who knows what she wants and will work on getting it. Nevertheless, if the harem-ness remains as subtle and delicately done as the ecchi, this could be a really good anime for me to watch. I am intrigued and waiting for the next episode. |
|
A decently executed typical premise which is likely to degrade heavily over time (like Toradora did), but might end up watchable if it doesn't. The really poor quality art & animation does not help in the slightest though.
Not necessarily a harem, they might just stick with a triangle (unless more random girls start popping up in the next ep, though there was no indication of that so far). Two don't make a harem
This one looks suspiciously similar to the "cat" in the new Aquarion... This post has been edited by Ausdoerrt on Jan 10 2012, 12:40 PM |

Ok after seeing this first epsidoe I have to say that I think Aya-tan knows my tases in anime a bit too well here.
I have to say the whole ailen thing seems like your classic setup to this series in witch it's set in a rural area instead of a major town, so with this it kind of has this Onnegai Sensei fell to it here. In any case I have to say at first i wasn't sure what to think about this series, but then further into it I have to say it looks like a fun series to follow afterall. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... Agree...the childhood friend has feelings for Kaito-kun but I have not seen anyone else vie for his attentions thus far...too early to tell. @ Woofie-san, I think I know you well enough to know what you like and as amusing as that may be, well, sometimes we do like the same thing...this being one of them. I know you adore busty, klutzy, redheads so this one is gonna suit you fine. I have no other series to compare this one to so that is a good thing thus, my enjoyment will be all the more enhanced. I have to smirk and smile at the animation commentary our sometimes, faithful spoilsport Aus-san made. |

And for those who haven't seen Onegai Teacher or Onegai Twins, the art and premise simply screams those two series all over it. The atmosphere is incredibly nostalgic for those who have seen it and I'm glad that Yousuke Kuroda has not lost his touch after so many years. In addition, the fact that KOTOKO composed the lyrics for this show brought out even more nostalgia even though she's not singing the actual song. Furthermore, Tatsuyuki Nagai and Masayoshi Tanaka returning yet again after working on Toradora! and Ano Hana is just perfect so far. While it certainly does not have the impact that Ano Hana had in its first episode, it sets up with a solid premise to work with.
And for a bit of "trivia" the series feels a lot like the Ano Hana prototype script that was mentioned where it was a high school romantic comedy of six childhood friends constantly telling sexual jokes. Anyways, as expected, I'm definitely looking forward to more of this. This post has been edited by Kit-Tsukasa on Jan 11 2012, 12:26 AM |

I just wish they could have made a different character design for Kaito. Give him black hair and take off the glasses and you pretty much have Jintan. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. Onegai Twins was kinda meh, but I loved Onegai Sensei when I watched it (though I haven't seen it in 2-3 years).

I totally get the Ano Hana feeling from this anime. I also saw the Jintan resemblance, lol However, I dont see the resemblance to Onegai teacher everybody keeps mentioning.... strange..... EDIT: google refreshed my memory. Now I see it |

Ah so you noticed it as well warita-san I see. Pretty much the bright red hair kind gave me that feel right off the bat here, but instead of a teacher it's a student that suddenly trnasfers in.
Oh Aya-tan I think it's simpler then that since you do know that I have a Total Weakness to Redheads in general be they busty or no. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... at first I wasn't sure to start watching this series soon but after reading your post and everyone else opinions I changed my mind, thanks to that I decided to give it a try today and I don't regret it ^^ hmm Ano Natsu... the resemblance of the title and the anime itself reminds me to Ano Hana but this time many characters of the main cast wear glasses (megane fetish maybe or is it just me? ¬¬), so far the first episode looks promising and with medium expectation I anticipate to see what's next with 7/10 This post has been edited by NecroRyu on Jan 11 2012, 11:00 PM March ava/sig: Nisemonogatari - Tsukihi Phoenix opening ![]() ![]() Scores of the Latest Top 10 Anime TV Series / OVA Series: 1. I agree with the previous posts. After only watching a part i felt like watching onegai teacher again. Even the characters are comparable.
I can't say that it would be disappointing to have another series like that one nowadays. Those kind of series seem to have gone to the background the last few years. The only thing i didn't like was that the main character already seems to be hooked on the alien girl. It looks like the girl who already has a crush on him is going to lose (childhood friend maybe. They seems to lose a lot nowadays). Hopefully they prove me wrong and give her a chance. |

This feels a lot like a mix of Ano Hana and the Onegai-franchise. Ano Hana because of the death-life thing (we dont know if he was saved or resurrected) and the seriousness that may come with it and Onegai Teacher because of the alienstuff and certain pictures featuring people from this sereis and the Onegai-franchise. And both because of the animation obviously.
The animation of the scenery is great, but I dont like how the characters looks, neither one of whom we have seen. Especially the hairstyles are terrible, cant remember the last time I saw them this worse. Ichika and Miu woul dbe quite goodlooking if not for there bad hairstyle. Overall I must say that the only really good thing of the show were Kaitos delusions and how they were tied into reality. Except for that it was pretty much meh. The jokes about Ichika not knowing the world were a bit boring and didnt really do it for me. I hope this gets more serious instead of comedic, but my hopes are really low after this ep. Oh yeah and just what kind of company can be in this remote place and have a domicile in Bolivia? That makes less sense than an alien. well the plot gets a bit serious in this second episode while we get to know why Kaito was about to die by the impact of the spaceship disfunctioning and accidentally landing near to him instead of a place without any living forms (very hard to accomplish if we count bugs and small animals), anyway was funny to see his friends playing the king's game while drunk and is evident Ichika isn't good in hiding her true identity while nervous or troubled but she somehow maneged to keep it as a secret unlike Onegai Teacher ^^ ...also was nice how his delusions are turning in reality but I didn't expect his nee-chan-san to be such a sentimental crybaby, I understand why she was sad as Ichika's situation reminded her to their late parents but I think it was too much for leaving to Bolivia for only three months so it's a good thing we'll not see her that much in the next episodes March ava/sig: Nisemonogatari - Tsukihi Phoenix opening ![]() ![]() Scores of the Latest Top 10 Anime TV Series / OVA Series: 1. Ok when I watched episode 2 why do I find his childhood friend a bit annoying. For some odd reason I want to say she looks like Akane from Ranma 1/2 and hoestly, I'm not much of a fan with her.
Aside from that I have to say that with her over-possessiveness pretty much it seems like the whole gang is going to be hanging around his house until they go out to film teh movie they are still planning. Although with Lemon-chan why do I get this feeling she somehow made an alcholic drinks for everyone here only to see if Ichka had feelings for Kaito at all or not. ![]() - Miko Miko Mode Oni Version - Yes, I do have a red riding hood complex... I dunno, because the childhood friend character is the typical annoying fifth wheel in any anime story?
|
|
Why do I get the feeling that Lemon knows that Ichka is an alien and maybe an alien herself
|

that's common in many harems and romantic anime series in general but her jealousy is very old school and that's not exactly nice or nostalgic in a good way, apart of the series previously mentioned that particulary reminds me to other oldies like tenchi muyo -.- ...another question is after she said aslept "Kai you idiot" what did Tetsuro mean replying "I'm the idiot", is that because he feels guilty for what happened gathering everyone in Kaito's house and he didn't expect they were going to get drunk? or simply for taking off his pants in front of Mio who is evident he likes as he teases her frecuently? probably something else happened between them while buzzed? Anything is possible with those two being "best friends." The best of the bunch. The sour-faced, fifth wheel, is bitter and petulant and annoying... Anyway, I like Lemon-chan...anyone who gets their friends plastered only to see how they react is a winner in my book...of course, she's got their back too but in a fun way...too sneaky.^^ This post has been edited by ImTakes on Jan 17 2012, 03:38 PM |
