Help with mkv files (gom right?)

Avatar
Klyern-chan   Jul 16 2007, 07:55 PM Quote
I got no grasp of players or codecs, configurations and etc so sorry if im posting something easy...

Got gom long before getting CCCP and zoom player, zoom player wich i used for a long time since it worked better (at least in my pc), now when i try using gom again (for mkv files wich dont seem to work on any other player even zoom player), they simply freze every 10 seconds and play back after 10 more, and repeats, always freezing the video while the sound plays, and then starting again.

Does anyone know whats going on with it? i cant play the mkv files i download =P

Im not sure if its related but Gom player worked fine before installing CCCP (well volume was still low but thats gom rit?), but now it wont work, and btw, when Gom starts up, hali media spliter or whatever starts too, but only the audio one and i cant get the video one to start. can anyone help me here? im in a bit of a problem has i cant watch about 1/5 of the vids here because of this =(

Thanks

http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php...28Bad.2FEvil.29

But anyways, try going into Start --> All Programs --> CCCP --> Settings.

Click next then check Reset All Settings and click Apply. Test the mkv again.

If it fails again, download Insurgent and go into Tools --> Test Render and pick that mkv. Then go to Tools --> Media Information and pick that same mkv.

Click OK at the end of both. Finally click File --> Save log and paste that log in your next post.

Download filmerit and run that based on the instructions on that page.

Now the problem is that the video stutters while playing in GOM player right? It doesn't play in Zoomplayer right? And it was able to play this exact same file without any issues in GOM Player before you installed CCCP?

Also your video card didn't get identified too well by Insurgent. Would that be a Geforce MX400?

Yes it stutters, i remember another file right now, nagasarete 01 (ofcourse like i said many mkv files did it not just a few, but not all of them either lol)

well has for the card it seems it says Geforce DDR, i think thats the name of the model alrit', since when i looked it up it said the same.

also now that i kept thinking about it i cant remember wheter it started working like this before or after installing CCCP so sorry.

tried filmerit, but it didnt help Gom or ZP.

ps: sorry but the only thing that i watched on gom b4 installing ZP was Blue Gender and a few eps of some stuff, but i dont have them now to try or remember if they didnt work.. sad.gif

If you have the time try this player:
http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page...k&mirror=brhack

During the install it asks you what cpu you have, If you don't know i think one of the options is general but it will be slightly slower than if you choose the right cpu.

Once installed click on the one that says smplayer.

PS it probably won't help you at all so only try this if you can be bothered. I didn't get your intentions in your post. Your post seems to say gom player doesn't work and I don't know whether you mention zoom player working or not and that you just want to be able to use gom player rather than zoom player. If that is the case just disregard this post.

Well considering you have a pentium 3 590mhz processor. And you are trying to play HD h264. You're only hope really is get a new CPU that's faster (probably a whole new computer for motherboard socket reasons) or try CoreAVC (might work).

I can't link you to CoreAVC since it's payware and isn't even being sold right now, but with the right pirate eye patch on; you should be able to find it.

Also if you wanna take a shot at a few speedups that are free.

1. Download newest CCCP (we just released a new one that has a faster libavcodec) and install over your current CCCP.
2. Go into CCCP --> Settings --> Next --> Checkmark VSFilter Subpicture Pre-Buffering.

If it still stutters then my previous diagnosis is what stands. Also revert the VSFilter Subpicture Pre-Buffering then, since it effectively turns off subtitle effects that are softsubbed.

i guess another thing to be consider is the RAM, usually running XP should be using at least 256MB, even with the graphic card wont help much. to play a .h264 or .mp4 or .mkv file takes up much RAM & CPU usage rather than .avi. that why the lagging occurred while playing video because of the (both maybe) your PC limit factor (processor & RAM).

for player, just go to download.com and search k-lite codec mega (or use google search or what-so-ever), the media player classic also included in it. or what-ever-player u want. wink.gif

XP on a clean boot for me used around 100MB (note that somehow a clean boot still failed to stop TortoiseSVN from loading; and used an extra 4-5MB). I also tested an HD h264/aac mkv while doing this.

Ram usage for that video was around 106-108MB. The VMM would easily deal with this, with 128MB installed. And a GPU isn't important in video playback. (low quality 2d images are trivial to render)

And if you're gonna recommend a version of K-Lite, at least recommend the least crappy one. Hell I think less problems would happen if recommending K-Lite was banned from this site. K-Lite is an illegal warez product, so there is a basis for it to be banned.

EDIT: forgot to say that .mkv/.mp4 doesn't use any more significant CPU or ram then .avi.

owh.. i didn't know that that product was an illegal and banned software. apology ... my bad.. sad.gif

so i have 2 question:

i) u did mention about clean boot (u also solved yhkoay-dude problem with that), so what exactly clean boot do? (this may out of topic, but...)
ii) what does "CCCP taika" title mean? it seems rare title... (this also absolutely out of topic, but..)

thanx for the info! wink.gif

It isn't banned. I just went off on a rant that it _should_ be. Considering that it does contain warez in it.

Loads only the Windows XP services/startup stuff. A less limited Safe mode kind of. Helps to fix things because of other 3rd party software interfering which was likely the custom theme skinner that person was using in this case. Also a great thing to use before playing a PC game. (helps limit background system usage while gaming)

"CCCP Expert" I believe. One of the mods decided to give it to me for some reason. Even though I do not claim that I am an expert about CCCP. I'm just a regular supporter/representative/playback-aid/channel-operator and not one of it's developers.

Taika means expert or adviser. Sometimes also translated as "experienced person".

CCCP, well, its means CCCP!

Hence "CCCP taika" means our resident codec helper who more than once proved that he earned this title just by his dedication cool.gif

As for whose idea it was ... I don't remember exactly who proposed it first, but ti was one of the senior mods.

Well I don't mind having it since it gives me a "supposed authority" aura. Which hopefully will make people know to listen to me when I say to use insurgent for something extreme and hopefully _not_ listen to others who recommend any extreme insurgent stuff. (I'm always worried some nut is gonna start recommending unregistering every filter in insurgent or something like that...)

sugoine...

first off, thanx to all who obligated to put an effort to answer my question.. i'm just curious.. tongue.gif

it sure a good things/idea with/having that "authority/expert" things so that others can always trust that particular person's decision. perhaps having an expertise in specific task is really good decision made by those senior mods. perhaps other experts in different task (eg: computer, etc) also can be made.

maybe a new poll/topic/section/thread for short Q/A (question/answer) can be made. eg: Problems?, ask the expert. (where only that expert and the ones that given authority person can answer and other answer from others will be deleted). so this can prevent any nuts to give any unnecessary suggestion that may lead to other problem..
(guh.. i feel that something pierced through my own head!!) XD ----[(+_+)]---->

so then, since this thread is not closed yet, i'm using this opportunity to ask something:

i) doofus123 did mention about crashing (of the codec?), what is the crashes mean? the player got jammed, or lagged, or cant play the file or something else? since i have no problem using k-lite mega codec v2.0+ (i not remember the exact version).
ii) is there would bring problem if i use multiple codec? eg: storm codec, CCCP, k-lite or others at once...
iii) in other topic i've read & mentioned about "CRC" things. what is the CRC & its role. (the thread where some of the files can't be read/play or corrupted.. i'm not remember where so i use this opportunity to ask here...) XD

thanx in advance. really appreciate!!! smile.gif

To play all my files i downloaded a CCCP codec pack and for Mkv files i downloaded Matroska's mkv codec. Few weeks ago codecs failed for some reason so i just redownloaded them. If redownloading the codecs doesn't work then i could possibly be the player. i use zoom player btw hope this helps

Crashes from weird decoder errors/bugs in media player/broken file/etc

Personally I'm not sure how crashes supposedly occur _more_ in the later K-Lite builds then in the earlier builds. Since from what I've seen, K-Lite has improved to be not as bad as it once was. Though it's still in a no way a good pack for reliable playback.

They will conflict so don't do it. Only install standalone decoders/splitters for formats not supported by CCCP. Check the FAQ:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check

Simple summary: CRC is a form of a checksum which calculates a fixed CRC ID from a file's data and can then be used to validate the file's integrity from a recalculation and comparison of the CRC.

CRC from recalculation = to original CRC from first calculation means file has no loss of data.

CRC from recalculation != to original CRC from first calculation means file has a loss of data.

Note: != means "not equal to" for non-programmers.

CCCP = Matroska's OFFICIAL Playback Pack.

The old Matroska pack is no longer supported and is now (and has been for a while) succeeded by CCCP. It of course supports Matroska so no need to ever install the old Matroska pack.
