And here's the tutorial on how to Boost your microphone output volume so that others can hear you better on Team Speak.

Step 1: Go into your Volume Control. It should look similar to this, but not exactly the same.



Step 2: Click on Options, then Properties.


Step 3: Inside Properties, click on Recordingand make sure that Microphone is checked on in the menu below, then click OK. It will take you to Recording Control.



Step 4: Go to Options again, this time, make sure Advanced Controls is checked. An Advanced button should appear below the microphone column.



Step 5: Click on Advanced button below and the Advanced Controls for Microphone window will come up. Inside the window, check on Microphone boost.


Close the window and recording controls; you’re done! ZOMG!

How do you make the speaker icon to appear in your task bar as shown below?


This is what you do to make it appear:
Step 1: Go into the Control Panel and double click on Sounds and Audio Devices.


Step 2: Tick on Place Volume icon in the task bar. Click OK

About TeamSpeak

Question: What is TeamSpeak?
Answer: TeamSpeak is Voice over IP software. It allows users with a microphone to have voice conversations over the internet. If you don’t have a microphone (or don’t want to use it) then you can still use TeamSpeak and simply type messages and text chat.

Question: What are the advantages of using TeamSpeak?
Answer: TeamSpeak allows you to have real-time conversations with other members of the Fansub.TV community. Interaction through the forums takes place within set boundaries. PMs certainly allow less formal discussion; however, TeamSpeak enables small or large groups of people to gather and discuss a wide range of topics in an informal setting. Of course the usual rules of respect and courtesy apply.

Downloading TeamSpeak

To download TeamSpeak go to:

The current version for Windows is the TeamSpeak 2 Client

Installing TeamSpeak

1. Open the executable file that you downloaded to start installation.
Firefox:

Internet Explorer: Locate the folder that the file was downloaded into to find the executable file.

2. A dialog box will request you to confirm that you wish to install TeamSpeak: Click “Yes”.


3. When presented with the Setup Wizard: click “Next”.


4. Select: “I accept the agreement” then click “Next”.


5. It should not be necessary to change the default directory in which Teamspeak is installed: Click "Next".


6. It should not be necessary to change the default settings: Click "Next".


7. It is useful to a create a desktop icon: You can select "Create a desktop icon" and Click “Next”.


8. When the dialog box indicates that TeamSpeak is ready to be installed: Click “Install”.


9. When that phase of installation is complete a new dialog box will appear: Click “Next”.


10. At the next TeamSpeak codec installer dialog: Click “Next”.


11. Select “Launch Teamspeak” and Click “Finish”.

Adding the Fansub.TV server

1. To start TeamSpeak, either use the desktop icon, quick launch or the start menu.

2. View the tab local addressbook and right click on the white background and a pop-up menu will appear: select Add Server


3. In the empty fields, type in the following information:
a} Label: FTV
b} Address: voice.fansub.tv
c} Nickname: Either the name you use on Fansub TV forums or any other that you wish to use
d} Allow server to assign a nickname: Unchecked
e} Anonymous: This is not permitted
f} Registered: Checked
g} Login Name: You must use your Fansub.TV username
h} Password: You must use your Fansub.TV password


4. Click Connect

Using TeamSpeak

[A] Connecting to the Fansub.TV TeamSpeak Server

1.) Launch the TeamSpeak 2 client. You will be presented with the following window.

At this stage you are not connected to a server.

2.) Click connection and Select connect.


3.) After selecting connect you will be presented with the following dialog box: Click connect. [The necessary information should have been should have been typed in during step 3 of the Adding the Fansub.TV server section of this tutorial.]


4.) When you first connect, you will automatically enter the channel called the "Lobby". You will only see messages typed by others who are currently in the same channel as you. You will also only hear the voices of those using their microphone in your current channel.


[B] Sending Text Messages

Public Message:
1.) To send a text message right click on "Lobby" and select Send Text Message to Channel.


2.) A text box will appear and you can type your message then send it by clicking Ok.

NOTE: If no one responds to your messages (typed or spoken), but you can see that other users are in the same channel, then it is likely that they are not currently viewing TeamSpeak, or are away from their computer and are not aware of your presence. Be patient and ultimately you will encounter someone who will chat to you. Remember that Fansub.TV has an international community so the times during which you are likely to encounter other members vary.

3.) You'll see your message preceded by *chan*.


Private Message:
1.) To send a text message directly to another user right click on the "name of the user" and select Send Text Message to "name of user".


2.) A text box will appear and you can type your message then send it by clicking Ok.


3.) You'll see your message preceded by *==>*, the private message indicator.

[C] TeamSpeak Status Icons

a.) Standard Icon – This is displayed when no other options have been selected.
* You can change your status by selecting the menu “Self” and selecting various options:


b.) Away – You can select this when you are busy or away from the computer.


c.) Mute Microphone – You can select this to avoid sending voice messages accidentally if you don’t wish to speak.


d.) Mute Speakers/Headphone – You can select this when you don’t wish to hear any sound from TeamSpeak.


e.) User Speaking – The icon changes when a user is speaking.


[D] TeamSpeak Flags

User Related Flags
a.) R = Registered user
Everyone who uses the Fansub.TV TeamSpeak server is a registered user.

b.) SA = ServerAdmin
ServerAdmins are members of the Fansub.TV Team. If you need assistance you may ask them for help. If you do not follow their requests regarding appropriate behaviour then you may find yourself kicked or even banned from the Fansub.TV TeamSpeak server.

c.) CA = ChannelAdmin
This user is in charge of managing the current channel.

d.) U = Unregistered user
Unless you have the password to TeamSpeak, you cannot join the server as Unregistered.


Channel Related Flags
a.) R = Registered Channel
This is a permanent channel.

b.) U = Unregistered Channel
This is a temporary channel which will be deleted when it is emptied of users.

c.) M = Moderated Channel
You cannot use your microphone in these channels unless you are granted the right to do so.

d.) S = Sub-Channels Allowed
This is a channel that can have sub-channels.

e.) D = Default Channel
The “Lobby” is the default channel and all users automatically join this channel unless another has been specified.

Configuring the Microphone

1.) Select the menu Settings.


2.) Select Sound Input/Output Settings. You will be presented with the following dialog box:

Click Set to choose a key to activate the microphone.

3.) Set the Output Volume slider to Normal

4.) Please make your Voice Send Method: Push to talk. "Voice Activation" picks up conversations or noises around you and this can disrupt other users so don't use this method.
Note: Only one person can speak at a time otherwise you will get feedback.

Configuring Windows Sound Settings for Streaming Music Only

1.) Go to /Accessories/Entertainment/Volume_Control and Select Volume Control


2.) The Volume Control Dialog Box will appear. Mute your Microphone by ticking the checkbox next to Mute.


3.) Click the Options menu and select Properties.


4.) You will be presented with the Properties dialog box. Select your soundcard from the pulldown menu. Choose the Recording option button.


5.) Select Stereo Mix and Microphone and click OK.


6.) The Recording Control dialog box will appear. Select Stereo to steam music from your computer.

Configuring Windows Sound Settings for Karaoke

1.) Go to /Accessories/Entertainment/Volume_Control and Select Volume Control


2.) The Volume Control Dialog Box will appear. Make sure that the Microphone is NOT Muted.


3.) Click the Options menu and select Properties.


4.) You will be presented with the Properties dialog box. Select your soundcard from the pulldown menu. Choose the Recording option button.


5.) Select Stereo Mix and Microphone and click OK.


6.) The Recording Control dialog box will appear. Select Stereo to steam music from your computer.

TeamSpeak Rules

1.) Be considerate of other users.

2.) Do not say anything offensive. (It is best to think before you speak.)

3.) Allow others the chance to speak. Don’t monopolize the channel.

4.) When another user is speaking or singing don’t interrupt them. Be polite and wait your turn.

5.) After streaming remember to reconfigure your sound settings.

6.) Listen to the Teamspeak Admin. If you as asked to modify your behaviour then you must obey his/her instructions or you may be kicked or even banned from the Fansub.TV TeamSpeak server. Please note that the Admins have the final word. [The server admins can be recognised by the (SA) tag next to their name.]

7.) If you feel that someone is being abusive towards you then you may notify one of the Admins.

Downloading TeamSpeex

To download TeamSpeex go to:

The current version is TeamSpeex 1.0 Beta 2
This is only available for Tiger (10.4.10) and Panther (10.3.9).


To run TeamSpeex natively on an Intel Mac, you can download TeamSpeex-1.0beta-r406
Be aware that, as this is a test revision, it is not entirely bug free; however, this version is compatible with Growl alerts.

Installing TeamSpeex

1.) Once the download of TeamSpeex is complete a dialog box will inform you that the file contains an application: click Continue.


2.) The mounted disk image will appear on your desktop (circled) and you can drag TeamSpeex into your Applications folder.

Adding the Fansub.TV server

1. To start TeamSpeex, either use a desktop icon (to create: Command-Option drag TeamSpeex to the desktop), the dock icon (to create: drag TeamSpeex to the dock) or open your Applications folder and find TeamSpeex.

2. Click Connect and a dialog box will appear.

3. In the empty fields, type in the following information:
a} Registered: Checked [Anonymous: This is not permitted]
b} Server Address: voice.fansub.tv
c} Nickname: Either the name you use on Fansub TV forums or any other that you wish to use
d} Login Name: You must use your Fansub.TV username
e} Password: You must use your Fansub.TV password

4. Click Connect

Using TeamSpeex

[A] Connecting to the Fansub.TV TeamSpeak Server

[ If you have a laptop you can set the trackpad to respond to a two finger tap in the same way as the click of a second mouse button. Open System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Click on the “Trackpad” tab then under “Trackpad Gesture” select “Clicking” and “Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click” ]


2.) A text box will appear and you can type your message then click Send.

2.) You will be presented with a dialog box Select the HotKey Tab. Then
Click the button and choose a key to activate the microphone.
