I would like to request Kimi Wa Petto episode 9 with english subs. The one posted earlier doesn't seem to work anymore.

Try checking out the J-Drama club at LiveJournal.....you got to register there though but it only takes a minute. Great place for many download links to J/T/K/C/M-Doramas.....pretty much all asian doramas worth seeing. biggrin.gif

Does anyone know where I might find English subtitle packs for rare live action Japanese films like All night long 4-5. I have a few movies that I would really like to watch, but my Japanese sucked even before it got rusty. There was a guy who went by cannibal king back in the day who subtitled stuff and sold bootlegs of them, but I haven't heard anything about him in ages. Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me out with this. Thanks.

I found a streaming site for the series, I remember using this site to watch "Bull Fighting". I'll try and find a direct download for it. rolleyes.gif

I found a site but it looks like the LINKs are dead and if I remember correctly, you're the one who introduced me to this site: -

I haven't watched doramas in a seriously long time and I've pretty much "lost" the sites I use to download them from. dry.gif

I checked if Thank You (2007) was here but it ain't, however, this site is still very good for doramas: -

Also checkout the JDORAMA club/community on LiveJournal they have download links for J/K/T/C-Doramas.

I hope Poonk could help you out because she is way more "in-the-know" when it comes to these things. rolleyes.gif

Hello guys! I'm new here so please guide me through.....

I would like to request Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo (Season 1) Drama starring Tsuyoshi Domoto from Kinki Kids. Yeah, it's an old drama, 1995 I think. I have download a few episode from Veoh but with my Internet line, it took me a day to download only one episode! I have search 4 the ddl of this drama but I can't find it, and I just find the season 2 & 3 drama n movie, but not season 1.

Therefore, I hope somebody would me direct download link to this drama (which I really want it!) with subtitles, and hopefully without parts. Oh, and I hope you guys can also tell me how to use the SRT file and combining file parts..I'm not really good with this kind of thing.

So. I really wish 4 it and hope somebody can help me! Arigatou gozaimasu!!

Hotaru no Haka: "Unlike the animated version, it tells the story from the view-point of their cousin (the aunt's daughter) and deals with the issue of how the war-time environment could change a kind lady into a cold-blooded demon. It stars Nanako Matsushima as the aunt, as well as Inoue Mao as their cousin."

Just watched it. The writeup above is for the 2005 live action version. The one you linked is from the 2008 live action version, which follows the original short storyline closely. The '05 version is the one that tells it from the aunt's pov... haven't seen any link to that one, but this '08 version is good though again there is stuff that is different. I would still like to see/read a writeup on the 'real' story... in which the boy/author lives to tell the story, though he can't forgive himself, perhaps still to this day.

On the '05 version, the author even says they took a lot of liberty with the storyline to gives the aunt's pov and who knows what else without seeing it, but the Wikipedia writeup seems much more sympathetic in the treatment, which is typical for how most societies treat their past errors, pains and delusions. That can be dangerous if the reason for them is forgotten along with such 'revisionism'. Those 'isms will get you everytime. I'm going to look for the '05 version now and see.

Still this '08 version is a nice adaptation in live action. The kids did a good job, better than I expected, and I think the director and editing had a lot to do with that.. I wonder about the more sympathetic use of the aunt's daughter even in this '08 version. Actually, it's hard to tell what the aunt's relationship is in this film, which could follow that '05 use of making Seito and Sesuko distant relatives, instead of near. Easier to 'revise' the history that way, especially when empires choose to forget their past. Everyone does it. How about all the hypocrisy our govt spews everyday? And it isn't new, remember all the nonsense taught as history in elementary school? Most likely the same around the world.

Guess that's why it's called Purgatory. History repeats its' lessons until learned. Thanks for the link NecroRyu.

Finished the '05 version. Yes, revisionism at work in the sense of excusing bad behavior, showing us how times are bad and so people become bad.... all attempts to excuse the situation as they leave out the political situation that affects the social situation. Same thing here in the States now, basic empire building so that the basic sentence of 'evil': "the ends justify the means" is applied to excuse our 'necessary evil'. That is a surefire sign of the end approaching. At least the '08 version keeps to the story and shows us that the 'aunt' simply is that way, and implies that so is society. There are good and bad people, deal with it.

That said, this '05 version is good and that is due to the emotional power of the main story that serves as the kernel to the aunt's family situational story. That essentially make her out as a survivor that does what is needed in hard times, which is basically the 'animal' way of 'the survival of the fittest'. They tack on the usual escapist excuse of her momentary regret and absolution of guilt, at least in her mind and that of the viewing audience it seems.

If not for the mainstory of Seito and Sesuko, it would be a totally meaningless load of political 'spin' to excuse the 'necessary evils' of the PTB who treat society as 'sheep' to use the biblical analogy and trains/programs our minds to treat each other the same way. The emotional effect is there due to the original story, but the entire 'aunt' situation is a lie using so many different 'war stories' that the main story seems but the 'necessary evil' truth needed to deliver the lies of war. This '05 version is just packed with excuses for bad behavior. Cannot recommend except to compare as propaganda against the original 'anti-war anime' based on the short story by Nosaka. The same is said of the Bible as well, but then that is another story. History repeats, round and round and it's always based on the ignorance of the sheep, ie, the masses... ie, you and me. Once you recognize the BS, you stop falling for this 'game' of lies and learn to 'move on'. dry.gif

And our world, ie, Purgatory, is jammed full of this BS routine and this '05 version is a good example of how bad behavior is 'excused'... nowadays, everyone is a 'hero', except our victims, but they don't get on our tv do they? So they don't count. Just like Vietnam and so many, many other countries. Knowledge is power and this film is a good example of how the truth gets twisted into propaganda to keep the lies going strong. Typical. They didn't mess with the original story too much, just everything else around it. That is usually called packaging lies in truth or wrapping lies around a small truth to sell it. Marketing 101 or as they designed it at Princeton, Game Theory, which is Economics 101 or how to get the best bang for the buck in ripping off the ignorant masses. ph34r.gif

PS... Again, I want to state that the 'real story' behind the one the author wrote about with his sister has her at 18 months and dies about 2 years old (the story/anime puts her around 4). That is a big difference that he notes in that one good interview he did with the director when the anime came out... and another reviewer makes mention of. He had to carry her around all the time... she just learned to walk a few months ago, remember, and her ability to speak wouldn't have been that great now would it? But that makes the story harder to tell and the story even more pathetic and perhaps it would just be too emotional??? That's why I would like to hear of any longer interviews the author had to have given over the years about this 'real story'. Most die in war or any bad situation without any mention at all, especially if they die suddenly or out of sight, which is how our rulers prefer it. Never let the masses see the truth as the emotion could affect their reactions and kick the PTB out of power.

Finally found more info on the author of Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies), Nosaka Akiyuki. It is an article by Hiroko Cockerill of the University of Queensland, Australia for the journal entitled "Japanese Studies". This article is in an academic journal online that costs $36 to obtain, but worth it, even if only 8 pages long, not counting the last reference page. The title of the article is "Laughter and Tears: The Complex Narratives of Showa Gesaku Writer Nosaka Akiyuki" 13 Dec 2007
http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10371390701685088

Needless to say, it gets much worse, thus the ongoing guilt he suffers, the stroke etc.

Hard to find information on someone that doesn't want to tell it, as she quotes from Noska himself:
QUOTE
I have been telling lies all of my life, ever since I can remember. When I was a child I told innocent lies. After I was burned out of house and home at the age of fourteen, I learned how to tell lies simply in order to survive. Now that I can earn enough to keep body and soul together by telling lies, I am unable to distinguish lies from reality. The works included in this book represent part of my lies. My lies will never have an end. (October 2004)

That's from his latest compilation Shikei choju. This 'lying' is the part of the narrator in his works, spinning his web to trap the reader into his stories. Cockerill compares that aspect rather well, especially when quoting a paragraph from the short story 'Hotaru no haka' in which Seito's voice mixes with the narrator in what seems one long run-on sentence, which Cockerill says runs throughout the short story, but reminds me of the stream of thought of someone near death. Reality and illusion start to blend.

Nosaka's sense of guilt seems to run throughout his works as it ran through that year of the firebombing and his running away. The stories seem to mix a sense of victim with victimizer as Cockerill puts it.

I'll add that I was wrong about his real sister's age. She wasn't 2 years old, but 16 months old when she died. "She suffered a concussion when he hit her in an attempt to stop her crying, and eventually died from malnutrition." So that short story takes place within about 10.5 weeks, I thought it was about 6 months from the anime. I know in the interview on the Ghibli site with the director, Nosaka mentioned how he was relieved in a sense because he was tired of always carrying her around, which makes sense if she was only 13.5 months old when Kobe was firebombed. She probably just learned to walk a little and just started learning a few words. Trying to always steal something to eat, irritated and undergoing the 'anvil' affect of deprogramming from all that imperial BS had to tear the kid apart. Add a starving 'baby' that is always crying and a sense of helplessness....

Rather strong stuff. Our American empire builders have definitely 'programmed' or 'conditioned' the masses, but we haven't had that usual imperial education like the Japanese did, the Germans, the Spartans, Soviets, Chinese etc. That makes it harder to comprehend if you haven't come across it in so many writings, films etc about that era, from those that lived through it.

It seems Nosaka, after his sister died, was later a street urchin put in a reformatory that slowly brought them "a slow death from want of food", but from which Nosaka again felt guilty when he was "rescued by his real father... who came across him by chance."

Imagine Setsuko, not 4 years old talking to her brother and others, but 16 months old always needing to be carried and no doubt at the end crying constantly as she starved to death. It's always the very young and old that get hit first as their bodies are weaker.

In this article by Cockerill, she writes that Nosaka declares that he continues writing his firsthand experience of the Kobe Air Raid in order to remind people that 'war is not a convulsion of nature but a man-made disaster'. Esoterically speaking, this seems the way of the 'dark side' or the empire-builders as they try to get people to follow along, think and behave like them, through fear, and forced choices, which in reality are not 'choices' at all, but acts of desperation. Slow torture that 'tames' society into submission as slaves. Time goes by but nothing ever changes, which is why it's called 'purgatory' with the goal 'wake up' and 'see the unseen' reality around us and make the choice to to leave this place behind, like Plato's Cave analogy. I hope Nosaka uses what time is left since his stroke in 2003 to work through this 'guilty conscience' of his that he drags around like an anchor embedded in his soul. You can't move on until you let it go, and 16 months may be about all the time left to heal the heart, as intellectual understanding is always easier than emotional understanding, which is needed to heal the wounds, so they can form scars and eventually disappear, no longer ghosts hovering around the memories that cannot be forgotten.

Needless to say, as a public figure, his pain is ours to learn from as well as his own, and pain is the gateway to real learning. This is put well in a slideshow of the anime at: www.slideshare.net/Bjuchelka/grave-of-the-fireflies-13175246

5. Unlike stories with happy endings, sad endings are usually more memorable, more meaningful, more captivating, more educational, and resonate with people for a longer period of time.
6. These reactions often encourage people to evaluate their dreams, needs, values, and morals in their own lives.
7. When people are sad, they try to alter these unpleasant feelings through understanding, self-analysis, and evaluation, often followed by changes in attitudes or actions.
8. On the other hand, when people are happy they are satisfied with themselves and do not want change, thus do much less self-analyzing.

It's interesting that so little of his writings have been translated after that short story which, like this Japanese journal, can mostly only be found in a few university libraries, and not accessed online unless you are a student etc..... but then the truth is always like that, hard to 'see' until one learns to adjust their way of looking at things... such as reality... and then all the symbols come to life.
