Gawd that was a good episode. Once again I have to say that I love the fight scene but hate the animation, I'm going to find the person who thought sloppy was cool and beat him, beat him hard! I don't know where they will go with this anime but I hope they can keep up the drama the way that they did in this episode. "It's a simple question really; would you eat the moon if it were made out of ribs?" |

I believe when Ami said refers to her knowing that Kitamura likes the President and did not tell Taiga, Minorin was also on the Student Council if you recall. Aye ep 16 was quite dramatic and ferocious lol. I just cant comprehend how a Taiga x Ryuuji ending is possible now. It would be kinda wrong for Taiga too consider Ryuuji its like hes the leftovers since she cant get what she wanted. At this point in time a Minorin ending seems unlikely but hey it only takes 1 good episode for great development and character transformation for the ending to be possible. Maybe Minorin may change a bit in the latter of the series. Aye Im cheering for a Ami Ending with Minorin close to second and Taiga very far back in the rear. Taiga just seems more like family/ bro/sis kinda thing. Honestly I dont want this to end up like Shuffle did, Id rather have an open ending over that. Shuffles romance is more like a tragedy if anything just to horrible and heartbreaking couldnt finish the series stopped after Kaede lost it etc just to much for my eyes to see and bear. I was bleeding tears man. I'd have to agree that at this point I would expect to see Ami with Ryuuji, Taiga's lost any chance she had in my opinion and it wouldnt be right for her to end up with Ryuuji and Minorin just doesn't suit him.

Hanabi- fireworks, blood gushing from wounded hearts, ep 16 let it all hang out. Kitamura will lean a bit on Ryuuji and Ami and get his footing back.Taiga has Minori and of course Ryuuji. Ryuuji will feed her well and Ya chan will give her a big hug. Tigers don't mope. Proof of that was her one word letter of apology to ex prez Kanou-BAKA. Toradora has become a special show. It could still be damaged by a lousy ending but not ruined. I have faith in the writers to do it right. I loved Kure Nai last year. It did so much in 13 episodes. But Toradora is showing why a longer show is better. It is steadily moving up my all time list. I won't count anyone out as far as pairings go. We've got 9 more eps to go,thats more than a third of the show.

16 = wow. Epic fight. they were both sooo battered. Its just to bad they lost there swords so quickly, it would have at least like to have seen a bit more sword play
Yeah but wasn;t it awesome seeing Taiga almost fly across the tops of those desks, that's a scary sight if ever I saw one. She's small, fast and lethal AND ARMED! *screams in terror*
It was a pretty brutal fight though although it got the result she wanted |
That was easily one of the most realistic animated fight between two girls I’ve ever seen in anime.
yeah it was realistic as far as them both trading blows I agree with Gustav1976 it was great seeing Taiga fly across the desk All you can say is Taiga is the truth after she told Ruuji to go to Kitumaru because he is crying and pulled the wooden sword from he back. I said to myself I know she isn't about to do what I think she is. but even then I really didn't expect a full on fight , so props to the student council Prez for taking her on. This was the best girl on girl animated school fight. I've ever seen ![]() All hail BRFCFC!! |

I disagree, because why would Ami be upset then? From what I can tell, Taiga doesn't really matter to her, nor does Kitamura really... I think it really has to do more with Ryuuji and Minorin as well as Ami's feelings for Ryuuji. Also I don't remember Minorin being in the student council?! I think she was in the softball club with Kitamura. |
the novel definitely depicts the feelings of ryuuji for taiga... but examining it carefully, it seems that ryuuji doesn't know what he is feeling towards taiga and makes himself think that he likes minorin... so stupid really...
i haven't watched episode 16 but i think i already know it since this is that focus of the last volume i had read... about the dialogue of ami to minorin, i think it is because minorin didn't only saw the picture of kitamura, but taiga also has a picture of ryuuji in his student handbook... and ami, just so open as ever, teased minorin( which at the time has already unknown feelings towards ryuuji)... i haven't read the next volume so i think i will stick to the anime first then recheck the novel for some undefined things that will be cloudy to me... UNYAA~?!?! |

Honestly, I didn't care for the Kitamura/Student Council arc. This episode was the best of those though.
One thing that irked me in this episode (as it irked me back in episode 2) was how there was a absolutely direct confession, and yet not a direct answer was given. How the bloody heck does that happen twice? First when Taiga confesses to Kitamura and he changes subject completely and then with Kitamura confessing to the president and she's just like, "Yeah... vote for him... bye." That's just not good. The ensuing fight scene and the resolution were well done though. |
Megiddo it's basically a tactic by the character to avoid answering because they dont want to say yes but also dont want to hurt the other person's feelings by saying no
You have much to learn grasshopper |
I know that.
However when it's used twice (and considering there have only been 2 direct confessions in Toradora), can't I get a little upset at the obvious lack of creative writing? |
It's a cultural thing amongst the japanese to avoid saying no. If you talk to a business man who has had negotiations with the japanese he'll say they have over a dozen ways of not saying no or yes either. I had it explained to me that the japanese have lived so close together in their densely populated towns and cities for so long that trying not to cause hard feelings is taught from early childhood.Formally, the japanese are a very polite people. Informally, they're just like the rest of us.
Odd that you say that shoprag, cause avoiding a direct confession hardly ever happens in anime. They'll either accept or reject, but not say, "Oh look! A butterfly! I'll go chase it and leave you wondering!", as I think the Japanese are very wary of the troubles of leading someone on can cause. Not answering causes even more pain in my opinion.

Well this is what I think: Minori thought Taiga liked Ryuuji, so Minori was feeling guilty that she liked the same person her best friend liked. But after the fight, she found out that Taiga actually liked Kitamura from the picture in the handbook. Ami stopped her from seeing the still unknown other picture. Then Ami asked Minori whether her guilt is now gone after seeing the picture coz now Minori will be able to properly admit her feelings to Ryuuji. Tell me if I hit e bullseye.

i think the prez likes kitamura but she does not want to say it because she was brought up different, and she knows he would give up everything and follow her to america, no matter how much he suffered, and she did not want him to sacrafice himself for her,
so she did what she thought was right, and i bet the other pic was of ryuuji, but yes i believe what ami said to minori was because of her feeling giulty about liking ryuuji, but also thinking it was ryuuji taiga liked, but ami also likes ryuuji, thats why she got that look on her face at the end, and of course the letter of apology at the end, she knows taiga is right, but she wont admit it, and taiga stayed true to herself and said what she felt was the truth, so the pez laughed, it has offically become anybodys game now, when will we see into the secret life of minori??? only 9 eps left, if they ruin the end ill throw away the dvd i just got of toradora, with the first 4 episodes, |

Megiddo:
you need to consider the first confession in the novels turn into a confession but not to kitamura ... i won't spoil more than that ... it would be hard for kitamura to respond yes or no when the confession steered away from himself.... the second one is successfully answered, without breaking character. the "apology" letter was excellent ... a nice "Taiga" touch the end was really the best part ... is still hard to tell why would minori feel guilty ... [*wasn't she doubting her sexual orientation by the end of the festival??*] as is usual with these shows it comes down to the pairings... a kanou X Kitamura ending is made possible by any of the other girls would seem rather disappointing.... A ryuji x minori ending would be tricky... there has not been a whole lot of development for minori as a character, she is a support character all around ... (*but we still have 9 episodes for it to happen) : A Taiga X ryuji ending is somewhat to be expected.... and it is laying .. plus she can't take back what she said in the Ami is a support character that does not know its place... her job will probably be as the trigger for ryuji to realize his feeling for either one of the other 2.... this is my guess and i hope I am wrong; you see... her 2 faced personality makes her the most interesting of the bunch, partly because she can say the most hurtful things to the others and almost enjoy it .... but such a pairing (ryuji X ami i have to say the president's confession left me wanting more....I can't put my finger on why... but that scene seemed to lack something. (GN to the rescue!! if i find a scanlation for download) |

I think you nailed it in your first post. Minorin now knows Taiga isn't in love with Ryuuji, so her guilt over liking him may be gone. But you missed the second part which is that Ami is upset because her friend blurted it out and revealed that fact to Minorin. I know a lot of you are barracking for the Ami/Ryuuji pairing, but she's been underhanded in activly sabotaging his getting together with Minorin. Think back to when Ami told him that Minorin was too shiney for him. Some saw that as helpful advice but in this light it seems coldly self-serving. And of course that attitude is in stark contrast to Taiga's, who even though her heart must be breaking over Kitamura, only thinks of his happiness. Such a cool show! |
just watched episode 16 but not quite what i expected...
in the last parts after the fight, i think ami was angry at herself because she wanted to be a good person but coincidentally, she slipped and made a preface of a war between taiga and minori, ami knows that minori and taiga both likes ryuuji but ami made a feat telling minori to step up too, in a such a way that maked minori realized that she still has a chance since she saw taiga protect kitamura's pride... correction: i haven't read the next part of the novel but i think a lot of underhanded quarrels between the best friends will occur with ryuuji in the middle, and ami as a constant igniter...
