![]() Title: Hyouge Mono Japanese Title: へうげもの Genre: Comedy, Historical, Samurai Premier: 2011-04-07 Animation Studio: Bee Train Director: Koichi Mashimo Original Creator: Yoshihiro Yamada Official Site: http://www9.nhk.or.jp/anime/heuge/ Basic Info: Adapted from Manga Opening Theme: "Bowl Man" by IKZO Ending Theme: "KIZUNA" by Yuki Saito Cast: Hideyuki Tanaka as Mitsuhide Akechi Kouji Ohkura as Sasuke Furuta Masashi Ebara as Hideyoshi Hashiba Nobuo Tanaka as Soueki Sen Rikiya Koyama as Nobunaga Oda Shingo Tsurumi as Ieyasu Tokugawa ![]() Plot: In the age of civil war, when the shadow of Nobunaga Oda was still cast over the land, the warlord Furuta Sasuke lost his soul to the tea ceremony. While war shook the world around him, he faced his own conflict between his desire for promotion and his love for his art. (~from ANN~) My Thoughts: Really funny! Watching Sauske navigate through Odu Nobnaga's precarious court while his sensibilities get him both in and out of trouble is just brilliant. At 39 episodes long, I am in this one for the long haul. I just hope that subbers will stick with it because I know this series is going to be really unappreciated. |
This one ain't gonna be under-appreciated by me that's for sure! I had been waiting and finally! It got subbed. Like you, A~san, I am a fan of the historical Samurai genre and to find this one a tad different than what is the standard Samurai norm, was a very pleasant treat indeed. I really like Sasuke and enjoyed being made privy to his thoughts as he skimmed over the pickings in that meeting, held by the handsome warlord Nobunaga Oda, who btw, has a penchant for some unusual finery, eh? |
I didnt knew what to think ot this anime after reading the summary, but the first ep was really good.
It has a good balance between seriousness and comedy with a few good laughs. Characterwise its pretty interesting too, especially Sasuke since his personality is totally unnormal for this time of history. But I dont know if they can keep it up for 39 eps. We will see. And too bad that the other historical anime "Showa Monogatari" isnt getting subbed by anoyone -.- Currently not watching much because of moving. My Animelist Top 5 of currently airing TV-series:(01.04.12) Waiting for new season to roll in |
Well, I know what you mean since we were all watching Souten Kouro and we know what happened there. I am waiting on "Showa Monogatari" too...here's hoping. |
I found out that one subgroup wanted to do "Showa Monogatari" so I asked them on their site if thats still active. Lets see what they say.
And except for that series everything is covered for now. |
Another fine episode. Sasuke, a vassal of the great warlord, Nobunaga, continues to hold true to his Samurai ways while at the same time, his love of a beautifully crafted tea bowl can send him swooning. Love those funny faces as he gazes on such...why, he can barely restrain himself.
Damn Sasuke made a big gamble with saying to kill Osen. And he really wouldve done it if his brother wouldnt have stepped in. And to really let him escape in exchange for the tea cup. Lets hope nobody finds out of else hes done for.
I wonder what rode Nobunaga to wear such an helmet. He really has a strange taste. @ImTakes: Yeah Osen really looked strange. |
After conquest, Odo Nobunaga was responsible for opening Japan up to western trade and culture. Because of that the author is depicting him with an exaggerated affectation towards western clothes and possessions, probably to add contrast to Sauske's very traditional tastes.
Osen is a gem, despite looking more than a little like a Noh mask. For her to trust completely in Sauske like that and accept the end whichever way it went. She's like the perfect ideal of a Samurai's wife. |
A Noh mask is held in very high regard in Japanese culture. Intertwined with ancient folklore and religion, it seems Osen was bestowed with the great honor of being made to look like one or the appearance thereof. Granted, it may take some getting used to but it would be nice to see the eyes that gaze upon our hero, Sasuke with such tenderness. She deserves better though...he needs to remember that while making love to his wife, he needs to focus on her and not on some tea pot. But this is Sasuke we are talking about after all.
Another very good episode. Too bad this one is not being watched by more folks. Ah well...I think I might have been snoozing during the OP. I say that since it was only after this third episode that I finally realized the song is about a tea bowl and not a woman.
Nobunaga Oda, what a man...scars and all. The Tea Master is a noble one...he knew all along Sasuke's folly, but he is not about to throw him overboard...not one tiny bit. |
Yes a lot of the characters are totally untypic for the era. Normally Nobunaga wouldve totally slain Sasuke. And Sasuke, hmm he would probably win the Award for "Most strange Person of the Era".
All that strategizing over a few bowls and whatnot is just great. I cant see something like that in our time. But the highlights of this show are the facial expressions especially Sasukes. Its too damn funny. Currently not watching much because of moving. My Animelist Top 5 of currently airing TV-series:(01.04.12) Waiting for new season to roll in |
And not only Sasuke, but his wife and child would have been put to the sword, while his servants were slaughtered, his house ransacked then burned...glad we are on the brighter side of things though and that Milord is occupied with illusions of grandeur...otherwise, who knows.
Yep, funny but what I enjoy more are his thoughts and exclamations at such sights he beholds to be breathtaking...glad, we are made privy to such. A wonderfully funny, smart, and cheery character. |

News: Cro-Magnon Band's Tsuyoshi Kosuga Arrested for Cannabis
posted on 2011-04-30 11:30 EDT ANN Member of band that co-composed Hyouge Mono anime is charged with possession Police in Japan arrested Tsuyoshi Kosuga of cro-magnon, the musical group that co-composed the soundtrack for the Hyouge Mono anime, on suspicion of violating Japan's Cannabis Control Law on Saturday. According to the public report, Kosuga allegedly had a plastic bag with two pieces of cannabis when he was in a convenience store in Kitakyūshū City around 7:55 a.m. that same day. Police report that Kosuga said, "I got it from an aquaintance at an event. I was going to smoke it later." After Kosuga had left the store, the store manager reportedly discovered the dropped bag on the floor and contacted the authorities. The store's security camera allegedly recorded the bag dropping from Kosuga's pants pocket. Police say that Kosuga returned to the store at around 1:20 p.m. that afternoon, when he was subsequently detained. According to the group's website, Kosuga plays the guitar and bass. He had performed at a live concert at Kitakyūshū City from late Friday evening to early Saturday morning. The group cro-magnon is credited with co-composing the musical soundtrack of Hyouge Mono with Kô Ôtani. Among other tracks, cro-magnon composed the opening theme song "Bowl Man" and arranged the ending theme song "Kizuna." Source: Yomiuri Love the songs and the group is way trippy...no wonder. |

Sasuke is something else! Dealing fakes for surrender, copulating with a beautiful female warrior, (well, she demanded such) but it seems he was not able to truly satisfy her from the look on her face afterwards...too funny. I sure have missed him and his great facial expressions. But above all? Why his delusions of grandeur...boy, did that one cost him and big. The look of humiliation as he was floating downward...can't wait to see what comes of it. I suppose in another four months, maybe?
Finally, another interesting episode. Milord makes a grand entrance with all the fanfare and bravado allowed his noble station in life. The looks on the peoples faces were amusing...not sure if the looks were of shock due the animal Milord was riding or the tall black man, Yasuke, who was walking to the right of him...as usual, his vassals are in awe...but the last two minutes of this latest episode will leave anyone watching in suspense and disbelief as to what happened. I still cannot believe it as I think it too soon but then again....might be a dream of sorts? Here's hoping...and yes, Sasuke is still as funny as ever.

So long in between episodes, and so many raws out. Love this anime, and craving more. Why such a huge delay. Maybe there are more to be had on the IRC. I hope I don't have to wait as long for the next ep.
No its only out till ep 11 which is really sad, especially since the anime soon is completely over.
The same with Showa Monogatari where Im still waiting for subs too -.- |
This one is so slow to be subbed that I cannot even begin to talk about it as it seems like I need at least 10 more episodes before doing so. The good thing is I am saving up the last four subbed episodes and look forward to more of the same as the fansub group looks to be picking it up a bit and I for one, thank them lots. So until I have a few more under my anime belt, I am laying low and hoping Sasuke will pull a fast one. I do miss Milord though. <3 As of today...episode 14 is subbed. |
